The New Year is the best time for you to set new goals. Apart from everything else, it’s always important to set goals that are inclined towards your wellness. Being a mother doesn’t mean that you should forget about yourself and focus all your energy on your children.
For your child to experience your best version, you need to start by taking care of yourself. One of the things that I have learned over the years is that the health and wellness of a mother reflects on how they treat their children. There are days that I’d be so tired, angry, or stressed and this ended up negatively impacting my child. So, for moms navigating through the challenging baby phase, here are some few useful tips that I’ve used time and time again and they have proved to be effective.
1.Start a Daily Meditation Routine
This is one of the best ways of taking care of yourself. Meditation allows you to be aware of yourself as well as the world around you. I have experienced some of the best and most dramatic changes in my life from just practicing meditation and mindfulness. Do you sometimes feel anxious or worried? Or do you just get overwhelmed by motherhood? Well, it’s normal to sometimes feel this way. But how do you ensure that you don’t remain in this state for long? It’s by finding time to meditate. Simply take a few minutes and focus on the current moment, how you breathe in and out. Allow yourself to be the center of your life in a few minutes before you can go back to your daily routine.
2.Eat More Green Vegetables
You cannot take care of the mind if you are not taking care of your body. Your mental and physical well-being are co-depended and for you to say that you are effectively taking care of yourself, you need to take care of both. Leafy greens are rich in minerals, vitamins as well as antioxidants that fight free radicals. They are also good sources of fiber and improve the digestive health. Personally, I am not a veggie fan but there are some fun ways which I use to ensure that I eat more leafy greens. Depending on the vegetable that I am taking, I can wrap it as a sandwich, blend, toss it as a salad, sauté or sauce it or simply slurp it from a bowl of soup. Some of the best and readily available green that are rich in phytonutrients include spinach, cabbage, broccoli, kale, and others.
3.Move for 30 Minutes Each Day
A workout routine can be very intimidating especially if you are a hands-on mom. But what can you do to ensure that you slim down and even shed the baby weight? It can be done by moving for half an hour daily. Its recommended that adults should get at least 2 hours of intense or moderate aerobic exercise weekly, breaking this down means that you should engage in about 32 minutes of workout. If you can’t sign up for a fitness class yet, you can do this in the comfort of your house. Find some tutorials online and be on the move.
4.Drink Your Body Weight in Water
Water is one of the essential elements of wellness. Note that blood is made of water. Inadequate water supply in the body leads to a weak immune system, poor body functions, and low absorption of nutrients. Additionally, water plays a significant role in weight loss. So, how can drink your body weight in water? Well, this means that if you weigh 120 pounds, then you need to drink 60 ounces of water daily if you are not involved in any strenuous physical activity. Some of the wellness benefits of taking adequate water daily is an improved rate of metabolism, weight loss, and also the elimination of toxins from the body.
With all these said, don’t forget to express gratitude. Every day before you sleep take a minute or two to jot down something that you are grateful for. It might be something as simple as your baby getting adequate sleep. Well, research shows that practicing gratitude helps to improve general well-being and improve your satisfaction with life.
